SAFE SHARING WITH CYNF

1.

Overview

CYNF facilitates the physical sharing process(1) by making certain assets of yours and your friends viewable by others and assists in preparing e-mails requesting loans and monitoring.

It is important to note that you have complete control over what people can see and borrow with CYNF in the following ways:

Asset Control
This gives fine detail control at the individual asset level, so that if you want you can control who can see and borrow your latest Golf Clubs. See below for more information.

Friends Control
You can control how your network is connected, so that if you prefer an individual or group in your network not have access you can. See below for more information.

It is also worth noting that in most cases a loan will require the physical meeting and exchange of items. If at anytime you are not 100% happy with the location for the exchange or the person you are going to lend or borrow an item from then cancel or decline the request.

Notes:
(1) While CYNF helps in the sharing process it can not and does not make the decision for you. A loan to someone is a personal choice and will take into account many pieces of information that naturally CYNF can not record.

2.

Asset Control

  1. This gives fine detail control at the individual asset level, so that if you want you can control who can see and borrow your latest Golf Clubs.
  2. Mark the asset "Invisible" from the "My Assets" page so that only you know its there.
  3. Mark the asset "Reserved" from the "My Assets" page so that other users can see but not borrow.

Adjust the "Distance" from the "My Assets" page so that only a sub-set of your friends can see the asset. For example set the asset's distance to 1 so that only direct close friends can see the item.

[By default "Distance" for a newly created asset is 3]

3.

Friends Control

You can control how your network is connected, so if you prefer an individual or group in your network not have access, you can. From the "My Friends" tab in the "User headquarters" you can:

  1. Adjust the "Distance From" of a person in the "People you trust Directly" list to either make them closer or further away in your network. This coupled with the "Distance" in "My Assets" controls whether a person can see an item or not.

eg. If you make George a "Distance From" of 3, he will not be able to see your Rolex diamond studded platinum watch which you have set at a Distance of 1. Also all of George's friends would be greater than 3 in which case they can not see any of your assets.

[By default "Distance From" for newly invited friends is set to 1, Distances of greater than 3 are excluded from any network]
  2. Adjust a person or persons in the "People you trust Indirectly" list, under the advanced view for friends distance and make them a direct friend at the same time.

Eg. Change Fred, (who is a friend of Harry who is your friend) who is currently a distance of 2 from you to a direct friend at a distance of 3. This means that typically Fred can see your items but none of his friends can.
  3. Exclude a person on any list, which means that they and any of their friends (as long as they are not connected to other friends in your network) can not see any of your items.

eg. Steven who is a friend of Harry, who is a friend of yours is completely untrustworthy and so are his friends. So you can restrict Steven's and his friend's access by giving him in your "People you trust Indirectly" an exclusion.

[By default if you exclude someone you will also no longer be able to view that person's assets in your "Network Assets".]
  4. Delete a person who is on your "People you trust Directly" list.

For example, Barry is a direct friend, he has recently done something you do not like and no longer count him as trustworthy. So you can delete your relationship with him.

[This is different from Excluding him, because he might still appear on your "People you trust Indirectly" list because someone else who you trust trusts him - because of this it is generally better if you exclude someone you definately do not want to give access to.]

4.

Other Factors to Consider

Clearly when lending something there are number of factors to weigh into your decision, some of these typically are:

  • the value and importance of the items you are lending

  • how fragile or easily broken the item might be
  • how rare or unique the item is
  • how well you know the individual borrowing the item
  • whether you also are borrowing something from them at the same time
  • safety of the place of exchange

CYNF can not be responsible for these decisions, only you as an individual can do this.
